Heart-Focused Breathwork Journey

  • Workshop Description:
In our time together, we will practice a heart-focused breathing technique that will allow our bodies to relax while simultaneously becoming energetically charged. While we are breathing, we will add contractions of certain muscles in our bodies. Finally, we will release - and do nothing.

What happens next will be completely unique to the individual. You might experience a catharsis or feel blissed-out. You could laugh or cry, or maybe you'll see visions! Or it's possible you won't "feel" anything immediately and it won't be until later that something profound hits you. This breathwork is a practice of personal liberation.

Drop your expectations, take the pressure off yourself to do it "right" and join us as we become aware of the pleasure available in the present moment when you open up your heart.

Bring all the things you need to make yourself comfortable (mats, blankets, cushions, etc).

    Facilitator Bio:
Ross Marshall is a certified transformational breathwork coach, reiki master practitioner, shadow worker, medium, ecstatic dance facilitator, and ordained minister. He is honored to travel with clients and friends alike as he helps them welcome home forgotten parts of themselves on their journey back to wholeness. Find him on Instagram @rossmarshallpractices

The Healing Art of WORD

  • Workshop Description:
Experience an interactive 3-part journey that will teach you how to heal through the expressive word art of Poetry and self-expression. Miss Mabeline will guide you step-by-step through the process of tuning in with your feelings, arranging them in poetic format, then sharing those words through a release into the atmosphere. There is someone in the midst of every crowd that is meant to hear your words - and that someone may even be YOU.

Confirmation that you’re sharing authentically from the heart can come in many forms. It may be a smile, a tear, or a thank you for your bravery.

Either way - this activity is the beginning of a journey that can lead you to and through pathways of positive change long after Sol Fest ends!

    Facilitator Bio:
Mabeline Howard is a Poet, Nonprofit Leader, Marketing, Entrepreneur, and Lover of the Arts. She is an Erie native who wears many creative hats. In her current role as Executive Director at the Bethany Outreach Center, Mabeline uses her artistic talents to bridge gaps and foster equity. She is also a Facilitator of the Youth Philanthropy Program, Hear Erie’s Youth (HEY!), sponsored by the Erie Community Foundation. Whatever the role, Mabeline relishes opportunities to uplift and encourage all who come into her path, particularly those in underserved communities.

As an Entrepreneur, Mabel is the proprietor and owner of two local businesses. In 2019, she opened Cafe 7-10, the 1st Black owned dessert and coffee shop in the city of Erie. Her consulting company, Mind And Body Education Link (M.A.B.E.L.), creates and implements programs that generate positive change in urban neighborhoods. A core concentration of M.A.B.E.L. is developing resources to address the needs of underprivileged children and families.

In her “down time” Mabel is a Word Artist, sharing poetry on many stages, most notably Express Yourself On The Mic with Miss Mabeline and the Poetry X-Change, which she curated and produced. While her work can be seen in anthologies and magazines, Mabel is excited to soon finish and publish her first book of poetry.

Mabel is known as a visionary and Organizer of Express Yourself Open Mic   Tour with Miss Mabeline featuring appearances from 11 Erie Poets whose work has been published in Pratik -a magazine of contemporary writing.

Mabel is most interested in creating platforms to encourage more African Americans and people of color (all ages) to be involved with educational programs that help develop literacy skills. She believes poetry opens doors, leading to exciting ways to learn about your history, other cultures, the importance of diversity, and the benefits of unity.

On diversity and inclusion, Mabel believes “Peace begins when you learn to love thyself. At that very moment you will truly appreciate the gifts/ talents that every culture can bring to the table when invited and welcomed.”

Live Music at Sunset Celebration!

  • Celebrate the culmination of the 2nd Annual Sol Fest event by dancing the evening away, right until sunset at 8:59pm!

    Artist Bio:
Satsang’s music is a unique blend of soul, folk-rock, and hip-hop. Satsang delivers lyrics that come from and are rooted in change, growth, awareness, and imperfection. Lead singer and songwriter Drew McManus will be joining us at Sol Fest for a unique and intimate solo storytelling set.

This live show is everything that the band name suggests: a gathering of people to assimilate and share their truths. The rhythms put forth keep everyone on their feet, and the lyrics leave them craving active and positive change. Satsang has toured all over the country and has shared the stage with the likes of Michael Franti & Spearhead, Steel Pulse, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Trevor Hall, Chris Berry, Mike Love, Jon Wayne and the Pain, Tubby Love, and many more.

Drew creates music for his soul, fueled by the ever present task of personal growth and the beautiful life that he found in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. Commenting on his difficult upbringing in Des Moines and residency in Chicago, McManus says, “I grew up in an environment where aggression, violence, abuse, and addiction were always present. It made me a lot of things; angry, sad, and ashamed. I hated my story and I was a slave to addiction. I tried for so long to hide from the reality of my story and the reality of how beautiful life could be.” It wasn’t until an intense spiritual experience lead Drew to break his cycle of addiction. “I had changed my entire outlook on everything” say McManus, “I began to realize that had everything not happened to me exactly like it did, I would not be exactly who/where/what I am right now.” In an effort to share his revelation with others who may be in the same predicament, Drew began to write every day. “I was flooded with the urge to write down the lessons that kept revealing themselves in this surrender. And the connections I began making with other people by making this music vulnerable and open, began to change everything.” These songs are a statement of lessons learned and a further understanding of self. “The whole story is what makes it beautiful, not just the good bits.”

Satsang released their sophomore album Pyramid(s) in March of 2017 and saw it quickly rise to #1 on the Billboard Reggae charts and #2 on the iTunes charts. The band also surprise-released a new EP, In Between Another Blink at the end of 2017 and had it crack the top 20 on the iTunes Singer/ Songwriter chart with no advance promotion. The band spent 2018 selling out two-thirds of their shows on headline tours in the Midwest, Northeast, and on the Pacific Coast.
